Construction Begins
On November 20th an Amish crew arrived on the job and began framing the schoolhouse. The plan is to have the outer shell of the building completed by Christmas. Behind the scenes, we are continuing to work hard on school development. We are considered a micro-school, which is the reinvention of the one-room schoolhouse. Recently, we were approved by the Herzog Foundation for Christian school start-up training. This will be a tremendous help to us as we make decisions regarding the operations of the school. The Herzog Foundation will not only do training but will also pair us with a mentor who has developed micro-schools in other states. We are working to create a business model that will provide long-term financial sustainability to the school. Our vision includes a storefront, like an old-fashioned general store, that will give a place to sell things the students make and grow, and in doing so, offset the cost of private education. We hope this part of the vision will soon be underway, but we will update you as that unfolds. We were recently reminded of lessons from the life of Uzziah in II Chronicles 26. Verse 5 says “… and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him to prosper.” Our desire is to seek God in every detail of the formation of The Homestead Schoolhouse, and in doing so, we are asking God to prosper this work for His glory! Thank you again for your encouragement, support, and prayers! |
